Traditional Page Instructions
The half inch margin is critical for your benefit. Each year we emphasize the importance of the half inch margin on all edges of your page, and each year we have some people fail to take it into account. In the past, we had a conscientious printer who would do everything he could to fix these errors. This year, our corporate vendor will simply be printing exactly what you give them. This means that if you ignore the half inch guideline your page will be truncated and lose content that you intended to have visible. So again, we emphasize the half inch margin for your benefit. Simply stay at least a half inch away from the edge of the page.
Preparing your family’s page:
1. Please put your family name in the center at the top of a white page, leaving a half inch margin above the text.
2. After that create your page as you wish. In choosing photos use ones that are clear and have subjects in them large enough to copy well. Also be sure to choose photos where there is sufficient contrast between the background and the subject, so that black and white printing allows visibility for the subject. Add printed borders (REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE 1/2 INCH MARGIN!!!) and backgrounds for interest and contrast.
3. Add any text you want. These could be scriptures, poems and/or picture captions. Create your text by a computer print out, a typewriter or a hand written copy. If you do a hand written text, please use a non-skipping, black ink pen.
4. LEAVE A 1/2 INCH MARGIN AROUND THE PAGE
5. Please do not put Post-it notes on the front of your page, the Post-it glue can leave marks on the page that will show up on the page when printed. If you need to attach a note please use a paper clip.
6. As an added quality assurance step, try photocopying your page on a typical (cheap) photocopier to see what happens when everything is converted to black and white. This step could save yourself from disappointment in the finished product, so that you can attempt to select things that will print well.
7. Keep in mind that if you submit a computer generated page, many of those pages have trouble when they are scanned and then printed on a high volume black and white printer. Something that looks great on your color ink jet printer will actually wash all the pastels together when converted to black and white and produce a printed image that is completely washed out. Our corporate vendor will no longer spend hours trying to correct these pages until they are presentable. What is submitted is what will get printed. If you are printing your page from a computer, consider converting it to black and white yourself and then submitting it digitally. That ensures the highest quality product.
TURN IN ONLY ONE PAGE PER FAMILY, CLASS, CO-OP & FIELD TRIP.
