Tower Christian School Trumpeteer Never Ending Story

Episode 6 - June 2008

I wondered what was happening too, but then noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was Nick…

She had jumped into the car with us, probably because of curiosity about how this weird turn of events would play out. That didn’t surprise me, but the expression on her face did. For a second she looked normal and serious, but then there was no hint of that. First, I saw a kind of evil happiness, then replaced by satisfaction, then looking at me with pity and annoyance. But the last look was the worst; it was a combination of all, but with a new look as well, the look of superiority. But the next second it was all gone and Nick looked like she had before, young and serious.

This made me even more shocked on top of the sudden shock of Mr. Collins’ sudden outburst. To tell you the truth, I was a little scared. And I had a feeling this was bigger than the pink paint, two colored eyes and false alarm…a lot bigger. (And looking back now, I see that it was bigger then I had ever comprehended.)

I then focused my attention on Mr. Collins. Even though we were now a few blocks from the school, he was still breaking the speed limit and looked as if he was being chased by a ghost. His panic stricken face had no sign of knowing where he was, where he was going, or that we were with him. I felt as far from safe as I ever had before.

I lastly focused my attention on Anton. He too had an expression that was the opposite of what I expected it would be. But unlike the others in the car, the expression I saw was the opposite in a good way. He did not look like a merrier version of my expression, which I thought it would be, but it was an expression that made me want to grow up right then and there. It was an expression that said without words that whatever happened he would make the best of it. Just looking at him made me feel stronger.

Suddenly the car stopped and Mr. Collins told us to get out and for a second I was relieved. But as soon as I looked out the window I saw that the car was stopped in the middle of the street, and we were nowhere near any of our homes (he had actually gone the opposite way from our houses). Nick had no intention of getting out of the car. She slipped out the door, opened the front door and got in the front seat.

But the worst part was that Mr. Collins did not make any objections. He just kept telling Anton and I to get out of the car. I heard a car horn honk behind us. We both jumped out of the right car door and ran to the sidewalk. Mr. Collins had hit the gas before Anton had shut the door, but the door shut because of the sudden forward momentum. By this time there were three cars behind us.

When I looked at Anton again, his expression was nothing like it had been before…
