Tower Christian School Trumpeteer Never Ending Story

Episode 9 - November 2008

Continued by Jesse Montgomery

To my surprise, Nick actually screamed. And I would have too if I weren’t a boy. Instead I yelled at my lungs highest ability!

A German Shepard crouched there, snarling at us, restrained by his leash that another in black had wrapped around her hand. What could be so important on a memory card that people would apparently exterminate?

“If you have any brains at all,” said the woman in black with the leash, “then I suggest you hand that card over to me or my buddy here and beat it. You’re young, so you must value your life.”

Yeah, they’d use their guns alright. Or they just played ‘get them scared and us innocent’. I went for the latter.

“You said it,” I replied. Nick looked shocked and brokenhearted at my reply, but I did something that none of them expected. I crouched in front of the barking dog. Its mouth was wide open, growling; slobber dripping around its teeth and splattering on the ground.

“Here you go, Buddy.” I flicked the card out of my hand and down the animal’s throat. If I didn’t get the info, they wouldn’t either.

“Why you little num-” I cut the woman’s sentence shorter with a shove, after grabbing Nick’s arm and pulling her out the door. The choking dog could make no action and the man was still recovering from his wound. My mind raced like my legs. What were these guys after? How was this connected to the pink paint splattered in the schools hallway? Were they covering something previously written in pink paint or was it a diversion? How could we be sure it was even connected at all?

Losing a German shepherd is not hard when it’s half choking, so Nick and I quickly made an escape. I followed her mostly so she led me straight to her house. We crashed into her front room and plunked ourselves on the leather couch.

“Luke, do you know what the info was?” Nick asked, not in her ‘you brainless dork’ fashion, but more concernedly. “No, but I’m not worried. Anton always hides a backup on the opposite side of the room.”

“Let’s get it tonight.” Nick said.

“Let us?” I said. “Why are you interested in helping me or Anton, Nicole?” Boy, I knew what was to come when she realized I used her real name.

“Isn’t he your best friend?” She asked. I nodded. “Then you should know.”

“No. Know what?”

“Know that he’s very important to me! He’s my cousin for crying out loud!” All I can say is that my mouth fell open real low.
