Tower Christian School Trumpeteer Never Ending Story

Episode 16 - September 2009

Continued by Katherine Elder

“This is much worse than I thought...”

Pete was silent for a moment, and then got up. “We need to go. Come on.”
“One more thing, Pete. I’m confused about the cult and Ghettos and are there other groups involved?”
“Your dad and Mr. Collins and I have been investigating the cult and so we’ve been pretending to be part of them. They wanted the data from the crash, so they kidnapped Mr. Won to try and get it. Mr. Won works for Ghettos, a large criminal organization, but some other secret group got to it first.”
I was still confused. “My head hurts! So this little cult decided to take on the big bad guys, Ghettos? And somebody else is out there?”
“Nobody said criminals made sense. Now, we really need to go.”
I got up and followed him back outside to the motorcycle. We got on and got back on the freeway. We drove for awhile, and then exited. I noticed that I recognized many things. I saw the warehouse fly by, and then barely a block later we stopped at the museum.
I looked at Nick. “Seriously! A block away!” She just glared at me.
“What took you so long, Mr. Bennett?” my dad asked Pete. “We’ve been waiting for you! I know that we got on the freeway so that if we were followed, they wouldn’t know where we were, but still!”
“Traffic, Mr. Moon. You know what it’s like.”
I started thinking. Why hadn’t Pete told my dad we were going to his house? And with so many groups involved in this mess, why was he worried about Nick?

“So, Pete and I will go in and try to make an alliance with them. You three,” he pointed at us, “go home. I don’t want you involved in this.”
“OK,” Nick said. I looked at her. Normally she wouldn’t just give up that easily. What was up with everyone?!
Pete and my dad started to leave, but Nick stopped them.
“Wait! We should pray first!”
“Amen!” I said.
“We haven’t started yet!” she said, looking at me.
“That’s a wonderful idea, Nicole,” said my dad. “Come on Pete.”
Pete looked suddenly uncomfortable, “Well, we’re kind of running out of time, so we should probably just go!”
“First, we pray,” my dad said. “Ghettos is not going anywhere.”
I watched Pete as he walked over. Why was he so reluctant to pray first? Was there something he’s not telling us? And why did I trust him? I just met him, and I just trusted him. Nick is the one who said we should pray. I trust her, not Pete.
We stood together, and much to my astonishment, Nick led us in prayer. The whole time, Pete was fidgeting and looking over his shoulder. When we were done, Pete stepped away quickly.
“Well, we’d better go.”
“Bye! See you later!” Nick said with a forced smile on her face. “Go!” she said as they walked away. “Go far, far away,” she said under her breath.
As they turned the corner, Anton and I turned and started to make our way back to the warehouse.
“And where do you think you’re going? Come on!” Nick said to us. We turned back to her.
“What do you mean? He told us to go home.”
“And you’re actually going to go?! Wow. Come on. We’re going in. I don’t trust Pete, so we’re going to make sure nothing happens.”
“Well, how are we going to go in? We can’t follow them in! They’ll see us!”
Nick pointed at a square metal cover on the side of the building.
“No! No! I am not going in there!” I told her, backing away.

“The ventilation shaft. I did not want to come in through here. I’m slightly claustrophobic, so I blame you if I throw up,” I said as I slowly crawled along on my stomach.
“Oh, quit your whining. It’s not that hard!” Nick said from in front of me.
“Maybe for you! Have you done this before, ‘cause that’s the way it seems. I can’t think of any other way you would know how to do this!”
“Shh! There’s an opening just ahead! I can see them!” she whispered. She told us that she saw a man in black with his back to my dad and Pete. As we listened, we discovered that he was the head of Ghettos. He turned around to reveal...
“Mr. Won! I thought that he was being held hostage!” Nick whispered.
I couldn’t stop myself, and blurted out, “What?” She just glared at me.
We heard Mr. Won continue, “I am the head of the international organization Perseus. The group Ghettos, the cult, the pink paint, and my ‘kidnapping’ have all been tools to trap whoever was investigating us. And now we have you, Mr. Moon and Mr. Bennett.”
That name sounded familiar. “Perseus. That goes with Andromeda. What is this? Odyssey?”
“Shh!” Nick glared at me again.
Mr. Won snapped his fingers and two people went over and tied up my dad and Pete. Then something happened that showed us that Pete was not who he said he was...
